Definitive Startup Guide for Git

Getting Started

1. Install a Git Client

CloudForge Git repositories require Git Client 1.7.x and above.

MacOS Download git installer,

Windows Download SmartGit, or

Linux Install from source or via your package management utility. e.g.:

yum install git-core
apt-get install git-core

2. Clone your Git Repository

First copy the above URL and using your terminal / command line app, checkout (clone) your repository locally:

cd ~/sources
git clone https://<username>@<organization>.git.cloudforge.com/<project>.git

3. Add some files and directories

Now you've referenced your on-line repository, it's time to add something.

cd project
echo "first line of my first file... yay\!" > helloworld.txt
git add helloworld.txt
git commit -a -m "first commit"

4. Push it to the master repository

git push origin master
